A Morning at Memorial Park

Prospect Lake at Memorial Park

running makes me happy

Memorial Park is located on the South end of Colorado Springs, at the intersection of Union and Pikes Peak. There is so much to do here. Their web site says it best:

Prospect Lake, Bath House and Boat House: paddle boarding, kayak rentals, open swimming, swimming beach, boating (motorized and non-motorized), two fishing areas (one wheelchair accessible fishing dock). Mark "Pa" Sertich Ice Center: public ice skating, lessons.Velodrome: bicycle racing track, roller skate racing track.Sports Center: Parks and Recreation's Sports Division Administrative Office; three baseball/softball fields, 15 football/soccer fields, 12 tennis courts with Tennis Center. And the YMCA operates the Memorial Park Recreation Center (indoor pool), fitness room, social/play room; and swimming lessons.

Today I chose a simple run around the lake. It was the perfect morning for one. The sky was blue, temps were warm (around 70 degrees), and the air was calm. I had to meet an agent at one of my listings not far from there so why not finish up with a quick run? According to the map, there is a 5K run which extends the perimeter of the entire park. I chose to run by the lake and make three loops instead. It was fun to pass by the boathouse and watch paddle boarders launch. There were fishermen with poles in the water. There were kids skating and biking. There were ducks, Mallards I believe. And of course I saw the typical Canadian Geese. There were runners and walkers, bikers and swimmers all enjoying the beautiful scenery at Memorial Park.

Colorado Springs is such an outdoor community. With all the trails and parks here, it's no wonder Men's Fitness Magazine ranks us the "fittest city in the nation" year after year!
